Evening and Night Time Economy funding

Green Party TD for Waterford encourages Waterford pubs, clubs and cafés to apply for Evening and Night Time Economy funding for their businesses.

Green Party TD for Waterford, Marc Ó Cathasaigh encourages Waterford pubs, clubs and cafés to apply for grants of up to €10,000 per business as part of a new Evening and Night Time Economy funding scheme for the entertainment and hospitality sector. The funding scheme, which was announced by his Green Party colleague Catherine Martin, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, will support venues, such as pubs, cafés and alcohol free venues, to trial new events, activities and initiatives at night, with a particular focus on off-peak times.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Ó Cathasaigh said:

“Funding of up to €10,000 is now available to pubs, clubs, cafés and alcohol free venures to provide cultural entertainment at off-peak times and I would love to see as many Waterford businesses as possible benefit from this scheme. The aim of the scheme is to expand the evening and night-time economy which could result in increased footfall in the city and our county towns. It will support businesses who are thinking outside the box, trying new things and coming up with ways to bring families and people of all ages and interests into the city and town centres during the evening and into the night. Applications are currently open and I encourage all eligible businesses in Waterford to apply.”

“In Waterford, we have a thriving pub and dining offering and a vibrant entertainment scene. This is an opportunity for extra support for businesses who would like to try out new ideas, see what works for them and their customers, find new customers and grasp opportunities to bring life back into the city centre or their town, especially during quieter mid-week evenings.”

This funding is a priority recommendation of the Night-Time Economy Taskforce following on from a  a commitment secured in the Programme for Government by The Green Party in 2020. The Taskforce looked at the Night-time Economy with the aim of increasing the diversity of events, increasing cultural opportunities for families and other age-groups into the evening and also to look at new ways of encouraging innovation and creativity in the Night-Time Economy.

Successful applicants will be asked to commit to trialling a minimum of four cultural events/cultural activities to avail of the funding. Activities including live music, comedy, literature, dance, poetry, art, photography, theatrical or craft events will be covered by the scheme.

The scheme is now open for applications and the closing date is 1pm on Friday 22nd July 2022 or until the fund is exhausted, whichever occurs first. Businesses may make only one application under this scheme.
